Saint Denis, Reunion (PANA) - Malagasy film director, Solo Randrasana warns in his latest production, Liza, against trivialising AIDS in the country where "explosive relaxation of sexual behaviours" exists.

The movie is an educational tool which exists in French and Malagasy versions to target urban and rural communities.

It was realised with French co-operation, and released during the 9th Reunion Festival of African and Caribbean films which coincided with World AIDS Day this year.

Randrasana expressed concern about the causes and consequences of HIV/AIDS in Malagasy, where official sources put infection rate at 0.7 percent.

He believes the official figure depicts no reality.

"NGOs and medical practitioners currently worry because HIV/AIDS is spreading dangerously here," he said on World AIDS Day.

He blamed "an extraordinary relaxation of sexual behaviours" and the impact of new media and televisions for the rapid infection rate of the pandemic in the country.

Randrasana, who is engaged in prevention of the scourge, criticised how wide publicity was given the purchase of special glasses to view the solar eclipse in Madagascar, yet nothing is done to promote the use of condoms.
