The conference, aimed at taking stock of achievements and losses made in the fight against the pandemic, will also act as a prelude to the International AIDS Day set for 1 December.
According to Dr. Clara Momanyi, an AAWORD executive committee member, the conference will bring together scholars, professionals, NGOs concerned with HIV/AIDS and people living with AIDS to share ideas and to discuss strategies to fight against the scourge.
Momanyi told PANA Tuesday the conference, to be held between Thursday and Friday in Nairobi, will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach in the HIV/AIDS management within the family set up.
"The family is threatened by this pandemic out of its very existence. It is pretty sad to note that over 4.3 million children under the age of 15 years have been killed by AIDS in the last decade globally," said Momanyi, who is also a senior lecturer at Kenyatta University.
