Revealing the statistics in Rabat Thursday, the ministry said that 70 percent of these were aged between 15 and 39 years while 16 percent were in the 40 to 49 years age bracket.
The statistics are contained in document issued by the ministry during the 7th Pan-African Organisation AIDS eradication day.
However, the document did not mention the number of people living with HIV. The Moroccan anti-AIDS association estimates that 20,000 people were living with HIV, which causes the incurable AIDS.
The ministry indicated that 69 percent of the patients contracted the disease through heterosexual means. Homosexuality accounted for 8 percent while 6 percent contracted the disease through drug injections.
Six percent of the patients contracted HIV through other high- risk behaviours while 3 percent got the virus by blood transfusion and 2 percent through mother-to-infant transmission.
The study further revealed that 89 percent of those infected were urban dwellers compared with 7 percent in rural areas.
Besides to HIV/AIDS, over 350,000 new cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are reported in Morocco every year.
Eleven African countries belong to the Pan-African AIDS control organisation created in 1994 as a non-profitable humanitarian organisation.
It is a grouping of health professionals, youth and community workers determined to combat the further spread of STD and HIV/AIDS in Morocco.
