The New York Times - September 14, 2007
Laura Kern
Selflessly dedicated to help support the children's cause, Marion Cloete, her husband and two daughters sacrificed their cushy life in suburban Johannesburg, and any semblance of privacy, to provide care, shelter and education for the orphans in the small village of Boikarabelo.
The children's challenged existence is likened to that of South Africa's elephants, whose population is also shrinking at an alarming rate, in their case because the government kills off the adults, leaving no one to provide for the young. Their plight deserves its own movie. Here they are overshadowed by the Cloetes' extraordinary benevolence and the children's painful, intimate stories, which humanize an incalculable crisis and will haunt audiences long after the film's end.
