The Mayor was reported to have said he would ask the Governor on Mother Teresa's behalf to release the prisoners who were "not a danger to anyone."
He also said he would help the Roman Catholic nun, who won the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize, set up a farm or camp for AIDS victims.
"I'm going to make a request publicly of people who have farms, estates, who might lease or lend them to Mother Teresa," Mr. Koch was quoted as saying, "and also ask the state if it has a farm or camp that can be given to her."
So far nothing has come of either proposal, City Hall indicates.
Mayor Koch says through a spokesman, Leland T. Jones, that he asked Mother Teresa at the time to identify the prisoners with AIDS whom she wanted released, so he could give the list to the Governor.
"At this point, they have not forwarded to us the names and identification numbers," Mr. Jones says.
On the proposed AIDS farm, Mr. Jones reports: "At this point nothing further has been done with that, because to date, Mother Teresa has not followed up with specifications on what she wants done."
No criticism of Mother Teresa is intended, Mr. Jones says, because the Mayor "certainly appreciates what she's done" to help AIDS patients.
