The Japanese ambassador, Keiichi Kato, who commissioned the project on Tuesday at Kinoni county headquarters, said it aims at supporting community based development projects that benefit local people .
He said the Japanese government has supported over 65 projects worth $5m (about sh9.7b), in education, vocational training, health, safe water, sanitation and agriculture.
Kato said the project was worth US$ 85,975 (about sh165m).
Kato said the project will empower 525 women living with HIV/AIDS in Mbarara, Kiruhura and Isingiro districts by training them in bee-keeping and providing honey processing equipment.
The ambassador thanked the Government for promoting HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support to the victims.
The Rwampara MP, Charles Ngabirano, asked the Government to continue supporting the bee-keepers.
