According to Health Alert Uganda, six babies were born HIV-positive because they were delivered at home in Gulu and Amuru districts.
Walter Anywar, the programme assistant, said the group had supported 313 mothers living with HIV/AIDS and that 211 expectant women would benefit from the programme.
"We also provide counselling to couples and give mothers with HIV/AIDS alternative food so that they do not breastfeed," he said.
Emmanuel Ameda, the field officer, said: "We do not give ARVs to our clients but only make referral to other service providers." He added that with support from Save the Children, an international NGO, they provide emergency drugs for infections to children living with HIV and settle their medical bills.
Ajok, a beneficiary of the programme, said the organisation also provides them with food. She encouraged couples to establish their sero-status.
