"I urge you to improve the quality of care of HIV/AIDS patients to reduce more infection," Angelina Wapakhabulo, the coordinator of the Market Vendors AIDS Project, told participants at a workshop organised by Marie Stopes Uganda.
The workshop was to disseminate the research findings on the impact of the project in three markets of Kampala last week.
The survey conducted by Marie Stopes researchers in 2005, at St. Balikuddembe, Nakawa and Parking Yard markets found out that the number of vendors who knew their HIV status had increased from 6.7% in 2005 to 12.2% in 2007, in the three markets.
The findings also showed there was increased awareness about HIV/AIDS.
The country director of Marie Stopes, Thomas Mega, appealed to other organisations to partner with his to fight the disease.
