Private Denis Omona killed Beatrice Akio after he accused her of infecting him and his wife with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
The UPDF 4th division court martial sitting at the scene of the crime in Parabongo internally displaced persons (IDP) camp heard that the convict, on the night of October 14, shot dead his girlfriend.
Pte Omona is said to have pulled Akio from where she was dancing together with other IDPs on that night and shot her dead before fleeing to his village at Ongako where he reported to the police unit.
Prosecution led by Lt. David Owor told court that Omona committed the crime while he was on night patrol. He fired three shots which damaged the victim's heart and liver, causing her death.
"The evidence is overwhelming and sufficient to prove the offence of murder. You (Omona) have been found guilty of murder and accordingly convicted as charged," the chairman of the court martial, Brig Peter Kerim said.
Kerim said: "You have been sentenced to suffer death by hanging in the manner authorised by law. It's your right to appeal against this judgment to the general court martial within two weeks of this judgment."
The convict's lawyer, Lt. Stephen Mugarura, earlier pleaded to court to set his client free on grounds that prosecution lacked enough evidence.
