SAS set to fight AIDS

New Vision (Kampala) - October 22, 2007

CAN you imagine a world without HIV/AIDS? You and I can be part of the solution to make this happen. This is what Savannah Sunrise (SAS) Foundation president, Dr. Robert Muhumuza, and his team, some of whom came from the US, said over dinner at Hotel Africana, recently.

The dinner was meant to raise funds for SAS projects. Through the provision of accessible and affordable health care, SAS seeks to eradicate HIV/AIDS through education and research.

G3U, a gospel group of talented youths, kicked off the event at Nile Hall, preaching messages of abstinence through songs. Later, Isaiah Katumwa electrified the event with his saxophone, much to the guests' delight, whose applause was also evident when Angella Katatumba and her group in white and black outfits serenaded guests.

Muhumuza said the current 6 to 7% HIV prevalence rate is economically-unsustainable. "Our mission is to reduce HIV prevalence to less than 1%," that is a sustainable figure."

He said if determined, AIDS could be reduced or even wiped out of Africa in 14 years.
