Mubende District Gets AIDS Clinic

New Vision (Kampala) - September 30, 2007
Juliet Waiswa

PEOPLE living with HIV/Aids in Mubende district no longer have to travel to Kampala for a CD4 count test, HIV testing and antiretroviral drugs. The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) recently opened a sh120m antiretroviral treatment clinical centre in the district.

The centre will also aid residents of the neighbouring districts; Mityana, Fort portal and Kyenjojo.

The Mubende district director of health services, Dr. Wilson Mubiru, said: "We are now going to have voluntary counselling, testing and outreach programmes. This will save people's time and money they would have spent travelling to Kampala for treatment."

The director of JCRC, Peter Mugyenyi, said the clinic will provide free treatment. It is fully equipped with modern blood screen equipment and a CD4 count machine.

The clinic will also handle emergency cases and network with Mubende Hospital.
