The Community Health and Information Network (CHAIN) is to buy the CD4 cells count machine worth $50,000 (about sh50m).
The Commissioner-General of Prisons, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, announced the offer recently during the second annual treatment literacy workshop for the uniformed forces.
CHAIN organised the workshop for the Police, the UPDF, Prisons and the secret services at Ranch on the Lake hotel in Kigo.
Byabashaija said the machine monitors the number of CD4 cells in the blood, below which an AIDS patient must be put on anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs.
"By the middle of next year, we shall be better equipped to monitor the health of our prisoners, workers and their families," Byabashaija elaborated.
CHAIN country manager Regina Kamoga said she had also got funds for the publication of a treatment handbook for the forces.
Over 50 health workers and HIV-positive members of the uniformed forces and secret services attended the workshop.
