Dr. Stephen Watiti, the Mildmay Centre clinical manager and Dr. Haanah Kibuuka of the Makerere University Walter Reed Project, said this on Monday at a conference on strengthening HIV treatment literacy and care programme in uniformed forces.
The conference that attracted over 30 participants from the UPDF, Police and the Prisons, took place at Ranch on the Lake in Wakiso district.
"Don't get mistaken. Do not get too confident. We are conducting research but there is nothing conclusive yet. Do not expose yourself to danger in the mistaken belief that since you are circumcised, you will not catch HIV," Kibuuka warned.
Watiti said soldiers are vulnerable to HIV because they go for duty far from home and are tempted to indulge in unsafe sex.
He said some soldiers taking ARVs fear to tell their commanders about it for fear of stigmatisation, adding that the commanders unknowingly post those soldiers to duty stations far from the ARV supply centres.
