Dr. Hannah Kibuuka said the basic message of the ABC strategy has previously been presented in several ways except through showbiz.
"MUWRP is pleased to present this message through contemporary music," she said.
Kibuuka said the song, A Little Bit Of Love, was the effort of many individuals.
Written by Steve Jean and Sylver Kyagulanyi, the song featured 30 local artists including, Juliana Kanyomozi, Mesach Semakula, Chagga, Blu*3, Mosh, Lyrical G, Peter Miles, Ham K, Mniki Norah, Kid Fox, Sweet Kid, Martha, Thunderman, Shakira, Annet Nadujja, Joanita Kawalya and Sophie Gobya. The song was developed and sponsored by MUWRP.
The lyrics focus on HIV prevention, emphasise the ABC strategy and call for support of AIDS vaccine research. The idea was conceived in 2005 during that year's HIV Vaccine Awareness Day celebration.
The number of musicians who performed in support of the day's activities heightened the resolve to do more in the struggle against HIV through song and music.
At the launch, the song CDs were given free of charge.
Kibuuka called on the guests to learn more about HIV/AIDS and get involved in the fight.
"It is gratifying to see that our local artists are making a positive contribution to raise awareness and curb the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS in Uganda," she said.
"I applaud the musicians for their support and also for working together with researchers in fighting HIV/AIDS."
While launching the song, Dr. Kihumuro Apuuli, the director of the Uganda AIDS Commission, encouraged the general population to support HIV vaccine research.
Apuuli lamented that people hardly practise what they say during daytime, in the night, yet it is these simple messages, which can stop the spread of the disease.
"This strategy of creating awareness by local artists is not costly compared to buying drugs," he said.
