The first deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Disaster Preparedness, Lt. Gen. Moses Ali, launched the Food for Health programme on Thursday at celebrations to mark World AIDS Day at Adjumani Hospital.
Ali praised WFP for the support to patients with insufficient food in their homes.
He said medication without food could not keep a patient healthy.
"We have the medicine here but no food, which everyone needs for the body to operate. I commend WFP for this very important initiative. The one who gives you food wants you to live longer and for that matter, loves you," Ali said.
He appealed to medical personnel to be kind and show love people living with HIV/AIDS.
"This will enable them to build courage and strength to do productive work and to live longer," he said.
WFP head of sub-office Alfred Odera said they also started feeding Tuberculosis (TB) patients and pregnant women who attend ante-natal care since August.
"We started this programme in August to feed TB patients but we realised that most of the people we were feeding were living with HIV/AIDS," he said.
He said they provide blended soybeans for porridge, maize flour and beans.
