Barclays in HIV/AIDS awareness campaign

New Vision (Kampala) - November 29, 2005

DISCRIMINATION against employees with HIV/AIDS is still rampant in our society today.

Barclays Bank kick- started a campaign against such discrimination recently.

The initiative was announced at the bank's head office during a press conference. In attendance were partners in the AIDS fight including Dr. Ian Clarke of International hospital Kampala, USAID's Dr. Peter Cowley, ILO's David Mawejje and Rose Ssenabulya from Federation of Ugandan employers.

The campaign is being carried out in all the bank's branches. It will see Barclays staff wearing HIV/AIDS awareness T-shirts and red ribbons.

There will be voluntary counselling and testing on Tuesday from 10.00am-5:00pm at the head office, awareness creation on Wednesday and video entertainment on Thursday, December 1.

The bank's managing director, Nick Mbuvi, stressed the need to sensitise staff, customers and the community about HIV/AIDS.
