The Young Empowered and Healthy (YEAH) project in partnership with Save the Children launched the one-and-a-half year programme on Thursday, targeting over 200,000 youth.
YEAH is a national multi-channel initiative of the Uganda Aids Commission. Timothy Ahimbisibwe, the Save the Children HIV/AIDS programme coordinator, said the project would benefit the youth, who have been affected by the LRA insurgency.
ôA lot of this money will go into promoting training of young persons on the dangers of HIV/AIDS. We want to work with youth- focused organisations like YEAH. Save the Children in Uganda encourages other organisations to join this campaign to reach out to all the youth in the north and not just the 200,000,ö he said.
While launching the campaign at Hotel Acholi, Gulu LC5 chairman retired Col. Walter Ochora (right), rapped religious leaders for decampaigning condoms.
ôItÆs time we got a practical way of fighting HIV/AIDS other than holding seminars. ôThe youth in Uganda think they are the pioneers, forgetting that all of us the elders went through that age. The youth need to change their way of life, otherwise, they are finished,ö Ochora said.
