DOCTOR John Kayongo Mutumba told the commission of inquiry into the Global Fund that the Ministry of Health improperly disqualified him from heading the project despite being the best candidate in the interviews.

Mutumba, who appeared before the commission probing alleged mismanagement of the fund, said he was seeking an explanation for his unfair disqualification.

Mutumba who is the project coordinator of the Child Nutrition project had applied to be coordinator of the Project Management Unit (PMU) which was to handle the US$201m for HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria.

Ernst and Young selected him as best candidate after he scored 68% in interviews followed by Dr. Tiberius Muhebwa.

The probe chairman, Justice James Ogoola, said ministry officials would answer Mutumba's query.
