Speaking at the joint government/donor health sector strategic plan review at Speke Resort, Munyonyo, Dr. Alex Kamugisha said the suspension of the fund had put many Ugandans' health at risk.
"The suspension of the Global Fund has affected the purchase of mosquito nets and the supply of ARVs for people living with HIV/AIDS. Some mess should have happened but could that warrant the suspension of the funds and the project management unit?" Kamugisha asked.
He added, "Couldn't something neater have been done? They should have consulted us. We (government) think the decision to suspend the funds has affected our people and if the ban is not lifted, many people will suffer."
The Fund suspended grants to Uganda over allegations of mismanagement.
