'Include PWDs in AIDS programmes'

New Vision (Kampala) - October 24, 2005
Flavia Nakagwa

THE Government and implementers of its policies have been told to include matters affecting persons with disabilities (PWDs) in its programmes, especially HIV/AIDS prevention.

MP James Mwandha (PWDs Eastern) said during a press conference at the National Theatre recently that special assistance devices for PWDs were disregarded.

"A society that leaves out some of its members on many national issues is not a just society. every individual needs to be involved," Mwandha said.

He outlined 14 issues that persons with disabilities would want addressed by the Government and major HIV/AIDS agencies.

He said there was need for government support on brailing and recording information on HIV/AIDS- related literature.
