Kabale chiefs unveil HIV/AIDS project

POLITICIANS, businessmen and scholars from Kabale have unveiled an ambitious project to fight poverty, HIV/AIDS and malaria in the district.

The project that will start with construction of a sh233m resource centre in the Northern Division of Kabale municipality was launched on Saturday at a fundraising dinner at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

The drive was led by internal affairs minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Kabale municipality MP Serapio Rukundo and city businessman Patrick Bitature.

Other prominent figures included Bank of Uganda Governor Tumusiime Mutebile, finance minister Dr. Ezra Suruma and Prof. Kaijuka Mutabazi.

Over sh9m was raised through the sale of paintings and pledges.

Earlier sh24m was raised at a meeting held at Rugunda's home and another sh10m was raised at Mutebile's home. The district will contribute 35% of sh233m towards the construction of the resource centre.
