Some MPs took AIDS funds, says MP Issa Kikungwe

KYADDONDO - South MP Issa Kikungwe has said his censure motion against health minister Jim Muhwezi failed because some of his colleagues benefited from the Global Fund grant.

"It is shocking that MPs are encouraging thuggery. Some benefited from the Global Fund. That is why they chickened out when it came to being counted.

"They feared that the minister would implicate them by bringing out a list of beneficiaries of the Fund, which they had either distributed among their cronies or they had not delivered," he said.

Addressing a rally at makerere University's lumumba Hall on thursday, Kikungwe was confident that the truth would come out soon, much as the public felt intimidated.

"There's a lot of intimidation. This government thrives on intimidating people," he said. Kikungwe recently solicited for MPs' support to move a motion to censure Muhwezi over alleged misuse of the funds.
