HIV kids mark X-mas

New Vision - December 16, 2004

THE food was good. Drinks, cake and ice- cream flowed endlessly and so did the fun. The children were having a merry time at the National Theatre gardens on December 12. What made this one exclusive was that it was organised by local artistes for children living with HIV.

So, it is not just about showbiz and pomp for our local musicians! At least that is what they proved when they allowed the children a peek into their humanitarian side. ôPeople think musicians are unserious, but today, we want to do something special for these children,ö said Joanita Kagimu and Lady J, a local singer and one of the party organisers. It was also a chance for the MusicianÆs Club æ89 to interact with stake holders to see what part they can play in the lives of children living with AIDS.

Representatives from Mildmay, Red Cross and UNAIDS joined the children. Local bands like Big Five, Afrigo, Mixed Talents, Roots Africa and Footsteps turned up. Gaetano Kagwa was faithfully there to run around with the ecstatic children. In the place of Father Christmas was Radio AcitveÆs clown, Simon Peterson, who enchanted the children with his magic tricks.

The musicians donated bags of clothes to the children in the IDP camps while Coca-Cola, MTN and National Theatre sponsored the party.
