First Lady Mrs. Janet Museveni asked Kitgum and Pader district leaders to sensitise people on the dangers of the practices.
Mrs. Museveni said this at Akwang sub-county headquarters in Kitgum during the World AIDS day on Sunday.
She also addressed residents in Lira-Palwo camp in Pader.
She asked married people to be faithful to their spouses.
Mrs. Museveni said the northern conflict had shattered communities and accelerated the spread of HIV/AIDS.
She said the Uganda WomenÆs Effort to Save Orphans empowered communities to care for orphans.
She asked people in Pader to jointly carry out large scale food production for consumption and income generation.
She said she would help them to procure seeds and farm inputs to facilitate the production.
State minister for security Betty Aketch said she was happy with the increasing number of rebels responding to the amnesty.
