The students, nine of them girls, were identified during an emergency meeting convened by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Lt. Robert Nambafu and deputy chief administrative officer Aloysius Aloka.
The strike was a result of the school management refusing to grant the students a disco and insisting that the students attend an HIV/AIDS counselling session instead. Nambafu, who ordered the arrest said, "Nobody is above the law, not even in Karamoja."
The headteacher, George Ruremire, said when the students saw a powerful public address system hired by the district health department for the event, they demanded that they ahve a disco.
They became violent at around 6:30pm when school authorities denied them the disco and could only be dispersed by the police. They destroyed windows of the school's complex hall, the dining hall and the windscreen of the school truck.
The school authorities resolved to expel some of the about 42 students who are suspected to have participated in the strike. Others are to be charged between sh30,000 and sh50,000 to repair the damaged property.
