Godfrey Kagoda reports that Rubaramira said most of the adverts and awareness messages designed a decade ago carry frightening information.
He said they should instead be consoling and instilling hope and sympathy towards people living with the pandemic.
Rubaramira made the call while opening offices for the Jinja District Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS at Bellevue Hotel recently.
"Much as we appreciate the role played by the media since Uganda went public about AIDS, we are asking them to involve the people deeply in the fight against it.
"They should come out with awareness messages conscious enough of those living with the disease," he said.
Rubaramira hailed the Jinja AIDS branch for its efforts towards sensitising the residents.
He said sensitisation on AIDS in urban centres is crucial and requires a lot of dedication and time.
Rubaramira hailed the Government for its efforts in fighting AIDS. He said the public should show love and care to the people living with the virus.
Dr. Boniface Ntalo, the branch's committee chairman, called on the Government to provide facilities to cater for positive expectant mothers and their husbands.
The Ministry of Health is running a nationwide campaign to encourage couples to go for AIDS testing and counselling.
