New Vision (Kampala) - December 12, 2003
Museveni was yesterday opening the Rainbow House in Nansana, Wakiso district, an orphanage for HIV/AIDS and other disadvantaged children that has been constructed by ASHINAGA, Japan in conjunction with ASHINAGA Uganda.
It will be used for counselling services and day visits for HIV/AIDS orphaned children as well as for vocational, primary and secondary education.
ASHINAGA has reached 11 districts targeting community-based programmes and NGOs for orphans.
A statement from State House hailed ASHINAGA for looking after the orphans.
He said the services rendered to the youth have helped them to develop their careers and cause development.
"The president said the orphanage causes trauma among children and said that psychological, social and material support should be extended to them to eliminate moral decadence among them.
Parents should shape the morals of their children instead of leaving these responsibilities to teachers and to their caretakers," the statement said.
"The youth should avoid contracting the deadly AIDS disease since the causes of the disease are known and can be avoidable," Museveni said.
He called upon the people of Wakiso to improve their income through modern farming. He cited mushroom growing, vanilla and other fruits for attention.
