New Vision (Kampala) - December 12, 2003
Abdallah Ogwang
A Ministry of Health official, Grace Nabisubi Mularira, said this during the launch of prevention of the mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programme in Apac district recently.
She called upon the leadership to mobilise the communities for the programme.
Mularira requested the district council to urge men to accompany their wives to antenatal care and voluntary HIV/AIDS testing and counselling centres.
She said this would reduce discrimination and stigma in the implementation of the programme in the district.
Mularira said the Ministry of Health was working out a strategy to start training health workers on how to protect children from getting infected with HIV/AIDS during birth.
PMTCT is a joint initiative of the ministry and the HIV/AIDS integrated model district programme.
