Kampala Marches Against Aids

New Vision (Kampala) - December 2, 2003
Geoffrey Kamali

THOUSANDS of people took to Kampala streets yesterday in a march of solidarity against the HIV/AIDS disease, which killed up to 70,000 Ugandans last year.

The procession, one of the biggest anti-AIDS march ever in the city, comprised mainly of students, staff from Kampala's five major hospitals, the Police, UPDF, musicians and other AIDS civil organiSations.

It started at the Constitutional Square at 8.30am where city mayor, Sebaana Kizito, flagged it off to end at Kololo Airstrip, the venue for this year's International AIDS Day celebrations. "As we start off this march, I wish to register my solidarity and Kampala City Council with you as we celebrate the international AIDS day," Sebaana said.
