Uganda's acclaimed decline in HIV prevalence would not have been possible if the Government did not work closely with the NGOs, Coutinho said in a plenary address to the International Conference on AIDS in Africa (ICASA) in Nairobi.
He said the NGOs in Uganda provide 80% of the HIV testing, 90% of post-test care and care for 70% of the patients who are on anti-retroviral drug treatment. They also provide nutritional supplementation for more than 35,000 people living with HIV.
