New Vision (Kampala) - September 10, 2003

The equipment was set to be auctioned in Kampala on Monday after the supplier, Ashford International, a US communication company that was to install it, failed to pay US$57,917.14 to Kuehne and Nagel, the agent who shipped and cleared the equipment.
Health ministry officials, including the minister, were not available for comment yesterday. A source said all senior officers in the ministry were in a top management meeting for most of the day.
But The New Vision has learnt that the health ministry has requested Quickway Auctioneers & Court Bailiffs to halt the sale for 60 days from September 8, so that it can sort itself out.
"The Ministry of Health has requested us to stay the sale for 60 days from Monday as it sorts itself out," said Apollo Makubuya, the lawyer for Kuehne and Nagel.
Sources said the health ministry and Kuehne and Nagel were locked in a row over the controversial equipment for a FM/VHF project. The project has also been hit by bad blood between Ashford and the health ministry.
