Sh41m For Virika Aids Clinic

New Vision (Kampala) - December 6, 2002


Barclays Bank of Uganda has donated sh41m to Virika HIV/AIDS Clinic in Fort Portal reports Fredrick Nyakabwa.

The cheque was handed over by the Bank's Managing Director, Frank Griffiths, at Virika Hospital.

The cheque was received by the Virika Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Enock Kisegerwa, and the ceremony was witnessed by the Hospital's Chairman, Father Albert Byaruhanga and the Kabarole district director of health Services, Dr. Kabagambe-Rugamba.

Griffiths said the bank appreciates customers support, hence the decision to reciprocate by giving donations and answering calls from serving cases like that of Virika AIDS Clinic.

Griffiths said the bank supports various projects in Africa where a total amount of sh3bn is spent every year.

Byaruhanga paid tribute to Barclays Bank which he said, was among the big donors towards the reconstruction of Virika Hospital was devastated by the 1994 earthquake.

The clinic is one of the projects initiated by the Fort Portal diocese. It started in 1991 to handle issues of HIV/AIDs and other related psychosocial needs.
