StanChart Unveils New HIV/Aids Initiative

New Vision (Kampala) - October 11, 2002

Standard Chartered Bank is to roll out a global staff health education campaign, code-named 'Living with Aids', a statement from the bank announced on Tuesday.

The programme follows the success of an earlier initiative, called Staying Alive, that was launched in all the 13 African countries where the bank operates.

It was a result of a desire to protect basic human rights, preserve the integrity of its labour force and reduce costs associated with HIV.

Charles Ofori, the banks executive director in Uganda said, "As one of the world's most international companies, we have a role to play in creating awareness about HIV/AIDS."

He added, "We believe that an educational programme for our people and the communities is the right thing to do as it forms a core part of our community programmes."

'Living with Aids', is a peer educational programme aimed at informing the banks employees about the facts of HIV/AIDS and how to avoid contracting it.
