HIV/Aids, Wars Cause 2 Million Orphans

HIV/AIDS and wars are the major causes of orphans and widows in Uganda, the Minister of State for Youth, Dr. Alex Kamugisha, has said.

He said there are over two million orphans and about one million widows in Uganda.

Kamugisha was recently addressing 150 students, mostly widows and orphans, who completed courses in handcraft, tailoring and computer science at the AIDS Orphans Education Trust, Uganda (AOET) in Wanyange, Jinja.

"Government finds it very expensive to cater for these marginalised people on top of the Universal Primary Education load it has undertaken," he said. Ends
