Kiyonga Counsels On AIDS

New Vision (Kampala) - August 29, 2002
Richard Mutumba

THE chairman of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga has stressed the need to use drama to spread the message for control and prevention of these diseases.

Kiyonga, who is also the National Political Commissar, made the statement in Tanzania during a four-day working tour.

He met the Tanzania premier, Frederick Sumaye in Dar es Salaam.

"Drama has been proved scientifically as the most effective way of communicating health messages particularly in rural areas," Kiyonga told the people of Mtwara and Masasi districts in Southern Tanzania.

A statement released yesterday said Kiyonga announced a grant of US$ 19m (about sh34b) to Tanzania from the Global Fund to fight Aids, to increase the distribution of mosquito nets to the population mainly the under fives and pregnant women.
