Stanchart Wins Award

STANDARD Chartered Bank (SCB) has won the Commonwealth Award for its outstanding campaign against HIV/AIDS in Africa.

The award, handed over to SCB in London early this week, recognises the bank's efforts in supporting staff and their families, as well as its work in generating awareness about the HIV/AIDS in the communities in which it operates.

"This is a great tribute to our staff, who have been passionate about changing attitudes and giving support to those affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic," said Peter Sullivan, SCB chief executive for Africa.

Stanchart is one of the few private sector companies worldwide, to receive an a ward from the Commonwealth Secretariat.

The bank's ongoing campaign, "Staying Alive," involves over 5000 staff in the 13 African countries where it operates.

Stanchart is also currently launching the "Living with HIV" campaign, to support to infected staff members and their families.

Stanchart supports initiatives of both local and international non-governmental organisations.
