Part of the money is to support the fund's secretariat in Brussels and the satellite office in Kampala where Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, the chairman of the fund, sits. Kiyonga is also Uganda's National Political Commissar.
Britain's offer was announced by the British Secretary of State for International Development, Clare Short, during a meeting with Kiyonga in her London office on Monday.
In June this year, Uganda pledged US$2m (about sh5.5b) to the fund. The fund has so far received US$1.4b in grants and pledges and this is expected to rise up to about US$7-10b.
"Clare Short emphasised that Britain was committed on a sustained basis to fight malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS and the accompanying poverty," Kiyonga's office said. Kiyonga also met US Secretary of State Colin Powell last month on the same issue.
