USAID Offers Food to Aids Project

New Vision (Kampala) - October 9, 2001

The Aids Support Organisation (TASO), Mulago branch, has received food from USAID to feed 1,000 families affected by AIDS/HIV, reports Florence Nakaayi. Senior counsellor Elly K. Ssendi said this at the Kyanja Muslim Primary School, Nakawa, Kampala, at the launch of the HIV/AIDS eradication campaign week on Saturday. The food programme will run for five years.

Ssendi said, "We will work hand-in-hand with the local leaders to enable us identify their people to avoid misallocation."

He said the TASO Mulago centre includes Kampala, Wakiso and Mpigi districts and all those affected will be helped.

The food includes posho, powder milk, beans and rice.

He urged the affected people to register with the organisation in order to get treatment and counselling.

He also advised those who can't do without sex to use condoms.
