Rwomushana told journalists in Mbarara town on Thursday evening that sh120,000 is the lowest price for the drugs. He said the average price is sh200,000. Rwomushana and Mbarara District HIV/AIDS Control Focal Person, Edward Mugarura, were addressing journalists about the visit by UAC chairman Bishop Emeritus Halem'imana to Mbarara.
Halem'imana told the district leaders and NGOs meeting hosted by the LC5 chairman, Fred Kamugira, that he wanted to explain how UAC works and how the local council could benefit.
Mbarara district will get sh2.6b for HIV/AIDS fight. "The sh2.6b is the highest in the country because of Mbarara's high population, the degree of the infection and the intensity of the response," Rwomushana said.
He said Mbarara was yet to receive the money because of bureaucracy. But Mbarara leaders said the price should be lowered further for HIV//AIDS testing to be standardised and harmonised to avoid inaccurate tests.
