Henry Chang, the executive director of the US-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation, said the first centre will be opened in Masaka district on World AIDS Day on December 1.
The second centre will be established in a district yet to be identified. Chang was speaking at the closure of the first ever Great Lakes conference on HIV/AIDS care and support at the Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel in Entebbe yesterday.
He said the project, to be co-sponsored by his organisation, would enable Ugandans access HIV/AIDS drugs at affordable prices.
"Our concern is that very many people are dying because they cannot access HIV/AIDS drugs.
"We should strive to provide life-saving mechanisms now and the ministry of health and my organisation will soon finalise the financial details of this joint venture," he said.
The four-day conference, opened by President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday, was attended by 300 participants from 20 countries. It was closed by the director of research and policy at the Uganda AIDS Commission, Prof. John Rwomushana.
In their joint declaration adopted after the conference, the delegates called on regional governments to commit their resources to the provision of health care and support those infected with the disease.
