AIDS Commission Launches Drive

The New Vision (Uganda) - August 27, 2001
Robert Kanusu

The Uganda Aids commission has launched a new strategy to combat HIV/AIDS, the director of research and planning, Prof. John Rwomushana, has said. He said the project, funded by FAISA Foundation, would be carried out in Arua, Moroto, Gulu, Busia, Pallisa, Kibaale, Kabarole, Kalangala, Rakai and Ntungamo districts. He said the districts were part of the 26 in which UNICEF had been running HIV/AIDS programmes. Rwomushana said this last week while presenting a report on the commission's programmes during the district response initiatives training of trainers workshop at Hotel Triangle, Jinja. Over 50 participants who included district probation and child welfare officers and health officers from 26 districts attended the workshop. "The new strategy to integrate local councils at district levels will call for community participation in the HIV/AIDS prevention," Rwomushana said.
