The New Vision (Uganda) - Wednesday, May 10, 2000
Briefing a 12-man Ghanian AIDS delegation, scientists at the centre said the last volunteer received the last injection in February, bringing an end to the year-long exercise. Each volunteer got four injections of either the test vaccine or one of two comparison substances.
Dr. Peter Mugyenyi, the JCRC Director, said they would continue monitoring the volunteers.
The vaccine is manufactured by Pasteur Merieux Connaught. The trial, funded by the US National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is a collaboration between Ugandan institutions and the US John Hopkins University.
