NIAID Online Update - May 27, 2008
On Friday, May 30, 2008, the AIDS Vaccine Research Subcommittee (AVRS), a component of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) AIDS Research Advisory Committee, will meet in Bethesda, Md., to discuss the proposed HIV vaccine study known as PAVE 100. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. EST. This meeting will be Webcast live on the following Web page:
http://www3.niaid.nih.gov/topics/HIVAIDS/PAVE/.
During the meeting, the study's proposed protocol design will be presented along with a discussion of the community consultations that have been conducted thus far concerning the trial. The status of the PAVE 100 study will not be decided at the close of the AVRS meeting. Rather, at this meeting, the AVRS is expected to provide to NIAID a technical assessment of the proposed study and its investigational vaccine. Using this assessment and other pertinent input, a decision as to whether to move forward with PAVE 100 will be made by NIAID Director Anthony S. Fauci, M.D.
