LipoWear, LLC - April 28, 2009
Irvine, CA, April 28, 2009 - LipoWear, LLC, a therapeutic clothing company, announced the launch of their first product, SitRelief Shorts, a pain relieving, padded undergarment designed for selected patient populations, including seniors, cancer and HIV patients. The clinically tested padded shorts (Patent Pending) are highly effective and alleviate sitting pain, a debilitating problem common to these patient populations. Sitting pain is caused by fat and muscle wasting in the buttocks and results in withdrawal from many daily activities which contribute to the quality of life.
The company estimates as many as 22.8 million Americans and 31.8 million people in the UK, Europe and Australia suffer from significant sitting pain and discomfort. Joe Bollert, PhD, Cofounder reported that "LipoWear has identified an important unmet medical need affecting millions of patients with lipoatrophy and sitting pain".
The padded undergarment was clinically tested in male patients with lipoatrophy and significant sitting pain by HIV physicians in Orange County, CA. Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, lead investigator, reported "the impact of sitting pain in patients with lipoatrophy of the buttocks is significant and dramatically affects their quality of life. Baseline sitting comfort was 11 minutes and dramatically increased to an average of 3 hours with the padded undergarment". Dr. Korey Jorgensen reported "his patients benefited significantly expressing comments such as 'the shorts changed my life' and 'I can't imagine life without them'. These comments underscore the problem and range of daily activities affected when people cannot sit comfortably".
The University of California Irvine, Center for Statistical Consulting analyzed the clinical trial data. In addition to significant sitting pain relief, there was dramatic improvement in Physical, Social and Cognitive Function.
Patients reported being able to participate longer and concentrate better in a wide variety of activities as a result of sitting pain relief. In addition, the garment restored a normal body contour resulting in clothing fitting better.
A focus group of senior men with lipoatrophy and sitting pain reported essentially the same result as the HIV men, significant sitting pain relief.
Terry Delonas, Cofounder of LipoWear, a long term AIDS and cancer survivor, conceived the padded undergarment. He reports "he personally suffered the debilitating effects of lipoatrophy and sitting pain for several years and witnessed the problems in many others and felt there was an important unmet medical need".
The company web site, www.lipowear.com is available for additional information and SitRelief Shorts are now available for customers online.
