AIDS Services Foundation Orange County - May 2005
Unfinished Works is an international arts competition about the continued fight against HIV/AIDS coordinated by the AIDS Services Foundation Orange County in California. The theme of Unfinished Work was chosen to reflect all that remains to be done in helping those affected with HIV/AIDS and to prevent the spread of HIV. We have seen many medical breakthroughs and people are living longer, healthier lives in the United States. At the same time, many are still facing on-going illness, infection rates are continuing to rise, and the global epidemic is devastating communities. With no cure or vaccination on the horizon, we are likely to be battling this epidemic for years to come. What lies ahead is our "unfinished work." Each submission should reflect the artist's hope, desperation, celebration, fear, or dream about HIV/AIDS and the work left to be done.
The competition will be evaluated in two age groups: Adult (over 18) and Youth (18 and under).
Awards will be given in ten categories:
Each category will award prizes to the top three entries:
Selected works will be exhibited from December 1-11, 2005 at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Ana. On December 1, 2005, in conjunction with World AIDS Day, we will host an awards reception and a candle light vigil. On December 2, we will host a special reading of the winning creative writing at the Grand Central Art Center of CalState Fullerton.
An Unfinished Works publication will highlight the winners of the contest. Visual art images and creative writing pieces will be included. Music and multimedia/film winners will have their works produced on CD and CD-ROM and inserted in the final catalog.
Submissions must be postmarked by August 1, 2005.
$20 for first entry. Additional entries $10 each. Youth entries are free.
