Arrested: Anton Jamar Josey, 34. He allegedly told police he shot the victim, identified Thursday as Dominique Duval, 23. He is also being charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two traffic infractions.
Fort Lauderdale police say Josey, armed with a silver handgun, approached Duval about 11 p.m. as she was leaving her job at Blue Whale Productions, 6406 NW Fifth Way.
Witnesses said he dragged Duval into a dark-colored Mercedes Benz with a broken headlight.
Twenty minutes later, two Hollywood police officers spotted an older model, black, four-door Mercedes speeding south on South 28th Avenue in Hollywood.
The officers hit their emergency lights and the driver of the Mercedes made an abrupt turn into a Shell gas station at 2801 Pembroke Rd.
When the vehicle came to a stop, police say Duval stumbled out of the car with her hands pressed to a gunshot wound on her neck and ran toward the officers. Duval, who was unable to speak, died on the way to Memorial Regional Hospital, Hollywood police spokesman Lt. Manny Marino said.
Josey told police he shot Duval because she gave him HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, according to his arrest affidavit. Police could not confirm whether that statement was true.
Officers arrested Josey without incident and found a revolver-style handgun in plain view, according to the affidavit.
