The grant will underwrite the Together We Can peer education program and community mobilization strategy for HIV prevention geared toward at-risk Hispanic, Haitian and African-American youth in Homestead and Florida City.
Red Cross will partner with Sembrando Flores and the GALATA -- Giving All Living Assistance Toward Achievement -- initiative.
An announcement about the grant said AIDS is a leading cause of death for Americans age 25 to 44 and it is widely believed that most people in their 20s who have AIDS became infected with HIV in their teenage years.
"We are grateful to the Dade Community Foundation for selecting the Red Cross to be a part of this important initiative," said Sam Tidwell, CEO of the American Red Cross Greater Miami & The Keys. "We always look for health and safety opportunities to make a difference in the lives of South Florida's youth."
