She will spend all her time in the capital city, Port-au-Prince, meeting with President Ren Pr val at the national palace and later visiting the GHESKIO HIV/AIDS Center for a first-hand look at how Haiti is combatting the spread of the virus that causes AIDS.
Haiti receives U.S. assistance under President Bush's global AIDS initiative, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
The GHESKIO center is often described as the oldest AIDS research center in the developing world and has welcomed visitors from all over.
After meeting with women receiving assistance at the center, the first lady will then visit a U.S. Agency for International Development education program. The program assists students who never had the chance to go to school with vocational training and basic education skills.
This is the first lady's first trip to Haiti. She is scheduled to leave Haiti Thursday afternoon for Mexico, her second and final stop before returning to Washington.
