Each summer, 60 of them get to try to forget some of those problems while they attend Camp Hope in Houston. Helping to make that possible is Tuesday's Angels, a support group for the Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center in Fort Lauderdale.
Broward County campers shared memories at a reunion held at the center, and also honored Tuesday's Angels for the support it provides. On the group's behalf, Chuck Nicholls accepted a framed thank-you with an inspirational quote signed by all of this year's campers.
Tuesday's Angels also assists families living with HIV/AIDS with expenses like utility bills, transportation, rent and mortgage payments, eyeglasses and funerals.
POOLSIDE PARTY
Balmy breezes and beautiful views set the stage for a social hosted by the Benefactors Advancing Covenant House.
The setting was the third-floor pool deck of the Sheraton Yankee Trader Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Partygoers schmoozed, danced to live music of the band Steel Away, tipped their favorite drinks and noshed on appetizers courtesy of the Sheraton Yankee Trader. They also bid on a fruit and flowers basket donated for auction by Arlene Bothwell of Accents by Arlene.
The party raised more than $1,000 for Covenant House Florida, which serves runaway and homeless youths.
Benefactors Advancing Covenant House is a fundraising group for people 45 and older. For information, call 954-568-7916.
