Suits needed for HIV/AIDS gala: A program aimed at saluting people living with HIV/AIDS is seeking donations of clothing and accessories so they can don formal attire for the occasion.

Miami Herald - November 23, 2006

The Liberty City Health Center and its community partners will join with others across the country and the world to help bring awareness of HIV/AIDS in their community through a Unity Awards program at the Hyatt Regency hotel, 400 SE Second Ave., in downtown Miami at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1.

In collaboration with the health center, The Village's Sista Project is coordinating "Dream Makeovers" and accepting donations of formal attire, haircuts and makeovers for people living with AIDS to be able to attend the well-heeled ceremony.

Organizers of the program are asking for donations of formal attire for men and women, including evening dresses, shoes, hand bags and accessories, men's suits, shoes and accessories.

The items should be in very good condition and on hangers, clean and ready to wear.

Those who do not have time to have the items cleaned should include $15 per dress and $5 each for pants and skirts, blouses and shirts.

All donations may be dropped off at the Village Twin Lake Office, 9400 NW 12th Ave. between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Pick-up can be arranged and donors will get tax-exempt receipts at the time of drop-off or pick-up.

For more information, call Metris Batts, director of Outreach Services for The Village/Westcare Foundation, 305-696-0738 ext. 202 or e-mail mbatts@villagesouth.com.
